Sometimes the tiniest things
make the biggest difference.

Like when I figured out
the space between the itch
and the scratch.

Such a foolish realization
works pretty good
for sleeping feet, too.

So when out of the blue
it got so dark
not even shadows
ventured out,

and I curled up
under the blankets
and pretended to watch crap
on television
while the dishes
and cigarette butts piled up

it was remembering
the gap
that finally
got me up
and going
