I was a hibernating bear
changing positions in winter's cave
because my foot fell asleep
or bones started aching.

Wandering blindly,
chattering to no good end,
utterly convinced
the next best thing
was the it
I sought.

All the while
wearing down,
rubbed raw,
frantic to grasp
some cozy warm place
where suffering ends
and struggle ceases,

It wasn't until
almost fifty years passed
that any of this
began to clear up.

The timing
was just about
perfect.
