I want to make the world safe
from atom bombs and gas,
but who doesn't?

I want to help the cardinal
that was too wet
to fly,
or had something wrong
and almost got run over.

I want to see them homeless guys
under the bridge
get something good to eat
and maybe a warm bed.

Who doesn't?

I want Rick to get his license,
and Jodene to find true love,
and my son's mother's
house to quit leaking water,
so that everyone can get on
to whatever next happens.

And who doesn't?

And I'd like
to smoke cigarettes and drink coffee
on a bench downtown
so my eyes can feast
on pretty tanned girls
talking into cell phones
about their dreams.

But who doesn't?
